Course Title: Carpentry Materials & Construction Fasteners  

Prerequisites: None.

Course Length and Maximum Class Size:

6 Classroom hours held in (2) 3-hour sessions.  Maximum class size is 20.

Objective:

Successful participants will be able to identify various wood materials, wood material uses and measurement systems and also be able to identify construction fasteners and their uses.

Content:

1.     Identification of lumber and its uses

2.     Identification of lumber defects and lumber grades

3.     Identification of various plywoods and their uses

4.     Identification of paneling and trim

5.     Computation of lumber quantities

6.     Definitions of fasteners used in construction

7.     Identification and uses of nails and bolts

8.     Identification of screws

9.     Uses of glues and epoxies

Those interested in qualifying as construction carpenters or working in other construction related crafts.
