Course Title:     Basic Blueprint Reading (# 400.110)

Prerequisites:

Technical Math for Blueprint and Mechanical (# 800.000) or equivalent knowledge and Reading assorted Blueprint drawings on CD-ROM (#400.100)

This is an introductory class and an interest in learning Blueprint Reading is basically required.

Course Length and Maximum Class Size:

23 Classroom hours given in (8) 3 hour sessions. Maximum class size is 28.

Objective:

This Blueprint course is designed to develop the skills needed to interpret basic engineering drawings.

Content:

1. Lines used in Engineering drawings--Object lines, center lines, hidden lines, extension lines, break lines, cutting plane or section lines. 1  Hour
2. Views used in drawings--Top view, front view, side view, chart drawing, assembly drawing, break-out view. 1  Hour
3. Dimensions, Tolerances, Title Blocks, and Notes 2   Hours
4. Metric system 3   Hours
5. Measuring instruments--Calipers, micrometers and gauges 2   Hours
6. Symbols--Welding, finish, and geometric dimension and tolerancing 1  Hour
7. Blueprint reading practice 11 Hours
8. Blueprint Final Assessment--(Testing) of Basic Blueprint Reading Series 2   Hours

Production workers, inspectors, set-up personnel, buyers and schedulers, and those planning to entering machining or construction operations.

Equipment Needed for Instruction:

Dry erase board or chalk board, overhead projector, micrometers, venire calipers, depth gauge.
