Course Title: Technical Math for Blueprint Reading & Mechanical Maintenance (#400.000)

Prerequisites:    Basic Math

Course Length and Maximum Class Size:

18 Classroom hours presented in (6) 3-hour sessions. 
(NOTE:  Participants will have the option of taking a challenge test prior to the beginning of the class to demonstrate mastery of all or part of the skills which will be addressed in the class.  This may eliminate the need to participate in all 18 hrs. of instruction.  Call ASU Tech to schedule tests.) Maximum class size is 20.

Objective:

To equip participants with the math skills essential for the successful completion of the tasks required for blueprint reading and for performing the necessary math skills for mechanical maintenance.

Content:

Module 1  -    (6 hrs) Math computation involving fractions and decimals. A test will be given upon completion of these 6 hours to determine participants’ readiness to proceed to module 2 or the need to repeat module 1.

Module 2  -    (6 hrs) Math applications and problem solving involving fractions and decimals; using simple formulas; using calculators.

Module 3  -    (6 hrs) Precision measurements.  Reading and taking measurements with rulers (1/64”), micrometers, and calipers.  {Final exam}

Employees planning to enroll in blueprint reading and/or the mechanical maintenance series.

Equipment Needed for Instruction:

Dry erase board or chalkboard, overhead projector.
