Course Title: How to Plan and Manage Warehouse Operations

Prerequisites: None

Course Length and Maximum Class Size:

18 Classroom hours held in (6) 3-hour session. Maximum class size is 25.

Objective:

To introduce the kind of planning that maximizes the effective use of space, equipment, and labor. To show how to manage a warehouse for maximum productivity by using your plan as an evaluation and correction tool.

Content:

  1. Developing a Warehouse Information System Plan to manage and control receiving, storage, picking, and shipping operations as well as losses
  2. Selecting the best combination of materials-handling and storage equipment
  3. Designing and implementing an effective loss-control program
  4. Listing the functions of a warehouse
  5. Developing a receiving, shipping, and analysis chart
  6. Defining a system in terms of the activities performed
  7. Calculating and using the unloading/loading ratios for assigning stock to positions in a warehouse
  8. Delineating methods for controlling materials at the shipping dock
  9. Utilizing space standards to evaluate warehouse performance
