Course Title:         Communicating and Overcoming Barriers

Course Length and Maximum Class Size:

4 classroom hours given in 1 session. Max class size: 15

Objective:

Participants learn fundamental communication skills including designing clear and concise messages, importance of non-verbal clues, effective listening and awareness of the many barriers that exist, and the skills and techniques to recognize these barriers and how to overcome them.

Content:

1. Awareness of communication barriers.
2. Organizing messages and speaking clearly and concisely.
3. Understanding facial expressions, body gestures and posturing.
4. Reflecting, probing, verifying, supporting and advising.
5. Using feedback to overcome barriers.
6. Stress factors involved in communication, cooperation and teamwork
